  2. Well-manned clean up after the horses is a main concern.  This is to ensure the safety of any marchers following the horses, so they don’t slip on the pavement while their eyes may be on sheet music mounted on their musical instrument.

  3. Parking for horse trailers has been arranged at the parking lot off Willey Street, next to the Dairy Mart.

  4. PLEASE LEAVE NO MANURE IN VACANT LOT.

PARADE FLOAT SAFETY
The Morgantown Fire Department has set forth guidelines that shall be followed by those organizations that intend to participate in the local parades with a float or other decorated conveyance.

These guidelines do not come about unwarranted. Situations have occurred at the national level in which parade queens, politicians, and other notable officials have been injured due to usage, construction, and/or operation of such conveyances.

The MORGANTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT has set for the following requirements:

  • Float regulations are; SIZE- 40 feet long and 10 feet high, maximum from bed of truck. Please adhere to these size regulations in order to negotiate turns on Morgantown streets and avoid utility lines. (Height on floats will be checked.)

  • Maximum of six (6) people on float bed at all times during motion.

  • DO NOT use combustible material in the construction or decoration of a float. This includes tissue paper, corn stalks and bales of hay.
    Absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

  • Every float is encouraged to check the gas in their vehicle before parade

  • Alcohol is prohibited – NO EXCEPTIONS!!!

  • All units must proceed in a straight line in the middle of the street.

  • No auxiliary combustion engines, such as lawn mower type, to operate moving devices or generators.

  • An approved fire extinguisher, inspected by a reputable service center, is required.

  • Any person riding in a concealed area of the float must have an easy means of escape.

Please note that special fire resistant tissue paper and other decorative items are available on the market for the decoration of parade floats.

Prior to the start of any parade, or other event where floats may appear, a Fire Department representative will be on hand to make “spot” safety inspections.

THE MORGANTOWN FIRE DEPARTMENT WILL DENY PARTICIPATION TO ANY FLOAT, OR OTHER CONVEYANCE, THAT DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE GUIDELINES PROVIDED.

Your cooperation to make all special events more safe and worry-free is greatly appreciated.  Individuals requiring any further information should direct all questions to City Fire Marshalls, Morgantown Fire Department,
